This year it’s exciting San Diego, CA for the VJ-VAP-61/62 Reunion.  It will be held at the Handlery Hotel, 950 Hotel Cir N, San Diego, CA 92108 from 10/17 to 10/21.  Room rates are $109 plus tax for single or double occupancy.  Hotel tax currently 12.7%. Taxes are subject to change. Rates are good 3 days before & 3 days after.  Attendees are responsible for making their own room reservations.  In order to assure you’re receiving a room at the VAPPER’S rate reservations must be made no later than Sept 16 by calling Group Reservations Department toll free at 1-619-298-0511 or 1-800-676-6567  Mon-Fri 7:00 am - 8 pm & Sat-Sun 9 am 5:30 pm. Tell them you are with the VAPPER REUNION Group.  A credit card number or one nights advance deposit is required to secure a room.  If you have not made reservations by Sept 16 you will not be guaranteed our group rate and will be subject to the availability and rate of the hotel.  Cancellations must be made through the Group Reservation Department.  No shows or cancelled reservations within 72 hrs. prior to arrival will be charged first night room and tax.   Early departure fee of $75 if there is a change in your scheduled reservation (in case of emergency the fee is waived).  Please make your reservations by phone and not the internet (3rd party vendors will not be accepted for VAPPER discounts and amenities that is specialized for our group) and our group will not be accredited for your headcount.  Amenities include: Free Self-Parking (for normal sized vehicles) and WI FI.  Hotel Shuttle only runs free in a 5 mile radius. Call Super Shuttle at 1-800-974-8885 to make reservations or by internet ahead of your scheduled flights. Cost of Super Shuttle can vary but most one way tickets are $12 per person, $24 round trip. Special 10% discounts for AARP, AAA, and Military.  Dogs are the only pets allowed for an additional fee (you must inquire at time of making reservations).  If problems arise while making reservations or you are quoted a different rate than above for your hotel room, call Donna Sims at: (Home) 1-660-259-4546 or cell 1-816-633-2363, email donna.sims.1969@gmail.com.
Hotel check-in time is 3:00 p.m. Check-out time is 12:00 p.m.  Early check in is not guaranteed.  Deadline for registering at hotel and with reunion coordinator (Donna Sims) is9/16/18. If slot of rooms (20) have been filled your rate could change or hotel could be fully booked.  A full refund for paid activities and the registration fee will be issued for cancellations received not later than 9/15/18.  Fall is a busy time for reunions in the San Diego area so it is very important that you make your reservations early to assure a room at our rate is available.  This hotel normally runs much higher than our rate so don’t wait.  Please “pass the word,” give this information wide dissemination, call or email other VAPPER’S.  Friends and Relatives of members are cordially invited as well.  Check VAPPER’S website for updates.  Facebook is also available.

Registration
Registration will start Wed 17 Oct. at 1:00 P.M. in the VAPPER’S Hospitality Suite “TBD”. The room will be open throughout the duration of our stay (see schedule below).  If during the tours there is no one to stay with the hospitality room it will be closed during the tours.  Remember the room is there for you to rekindle lost friendships, make new friends and relive your sea/air & land stories or to make and meet new friends.
                                
Wednesday’s Oct 17th Meet & Greet (Reception)
The Reception will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. “Hospitality Room converted for Reception TBD” where we will share in a “Deli Buffet” of Mixed Greens, Cole Slaw, Red Potato Salad, Relish Tray, Assorted Meats, Assorted Cheeses-Breads, fresh baked Cookies, Brownies, Coffee, & Hot or Cold Tea.              If hospitality room is converted for reception then registration will close at 6:00 pm and those who paid for meet/greet will remain in room for deli buffet. Doors will reopen for all guests & registrations at 8:00 pm.  Cost = $27 per person tax & gratuity included.


                       Thursday Oct. 18th Itinerary for Old Trolley City Light Night Tour
A 3 hr. tour & journey starts off by exploring the West Coast’s premier entertainment district known as the Gaslamp Quarter.  Famed for its vibrant nightlife, bright lights, and Victorian architecture, it will captivate your imagination of what makes this urban playground unforgettable. We’ll then make our way to Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in the US, where it’s transformed at night by stunning buildings, fountains, and statues glowing bright that are equally as remarkable in the evening as they are during the day. From Balboa Park we’ll drive to the top of Coronado Bridge for more spectacular sights, including the lights coming in from Tijuana, Mexico, the bay, and downtown San Diego. We’ll then travel to Coronado’s Ferry Landing for a 20 min. stop to take in the stunning beauty of the San Diego city skyline.  A 1 hr. stop at Coronado Island to grab a drink or see the sights. From Coronado, we’ll make our way to the Embarcadero’s bayfront views. You’ll see the Historic County Administration Building, Maritime Museum’s Star of India, the USS Midway Museum (for more photo ops), Seaport Village, The Headquarters, and we’ll also see the Navy’s aircraft carriers from across the bay.             Cost = $45.00 per person.
                  Friday Oct 19th Itinerary for Sea-Land And City Day Tour of San Diego
It’s a boat!  It’s a bus!  It’s San Diego’s only amphibious Sea and Land Adventure!  Your fully-narrated SEAL Tour departs from the Handlery Hotel.  You will wind through picturesque San Diego streets before splashing down for a cruise through the waters of the San Diego Bay.  Experience the history and ecological wonders of San Diego in the comfort of unique Hydra Terras.  Here you’ll learn firsthand of rich military history and cruise through the waters that are the playground of the California Sea Lion.  Then off to a 1 hr. City Tour, 1 hr. for lunch at your expense and then back to join your VAPPER’S Group in the Hospitality room.  Cost = $66.00 per person


                       
Saturday Oct 20th San Diego Beach Tour (if enough interest)
This will be a 2 hour tour of all the Main Beaches of San Diego. It also includes a stop at the Veterans Memorial. Must be able to fill Trolley or this tour will not make (31 per Trolley). Old Town is close by you can shuttle or Uber there and take the City tour if this tour doesn’t make. There are also some really good tours that you can go online and get from VIATOR. Or you can simply hop the hotel shuttle (if available) into Old Town to enjoy the day.  Cost = $42.00 per person

                                                 Saturday Banquet Dinner
We encourage each of you to join us for the Saturday 6:00 to 8:00 PM Banquet Dinner.  There will be a memorial ceremony for those that have passed on, followed by a sit down dinner. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased in the Handlery Hotel Bar. Beverages from the Hospitality room are not allowed in the Banquet Room.  The event will wrap up with announcements, and more sea stories (if you have any to tell) feel free to share.  This is your opportunity to meet new people and get to share/and hear what your fellow VAPPERS have done or been known to do.  We will then head back to the Hospitality room for the final events.

Note: Please double-check the number in your party plus all events you plan on attending prior to sending your check with your registration.  These Trolley’s only allow 35 passengers aboard and once it is sold out we might not be able to make arrangements for second or third trolleys.  Those planning on tours and hotel must get your registrations made early to assure a room and seat on the Trolley.  At least 35 people must sign up for each tour in order to secure the trolleys. Refunds will be given for the tour if we are unable to fill enough seats.  Anyone with special needs must call me. There is limited lift capabilities on all Trolley’s.  Don’t forget Local Ubers are also readily available for transportation needs.  Special needs please call Shuttle or local cabs prior to arrival.
